A company pension plan is a type of workplace pension set up by your employer. There are two types of company pension schemes: Occupational (Final Salary Pension Scheme) and Group Personal Pension Schemes, both have different advantages and disadvantages.
An annuity is a type of retirement income product that you buy with some or all of your pension pot. It pays a regular retirement income either for life or for a set period.
Personal or Private pensions (same) are pensions that you arrange yourself. They’re sometimes known as defined contribution or ‘money purchase’ pensions. You’ll usually get a pension that’s based on how much was paid in.
The service we provide is free initially, we’ll show you how your pension is performing free of charge. A pension review carried out by a Financial Advisor will give you access to cheaper pension funds.
Income Drawdown is a way of using your pension pot to provide you with a regular retirement income by reinvesting it in funds specifically designed and managed for this purpose. The income you get will vary depending on the fund’s performance. It isn’t guaranteed for life.
Most people change jobs several times and pay into several pensions over the years. Consolidating pensions gives you more control over your money and makes it easy to check that you’re on track. You will have less paperwork and could save money too.
You may want to move some or all of your pension fund if you’re changing job; your pension scheme is being closed;
you want to transfer to a better pension scheme or you have pensions from more than one employer and want to bring them together.
A Pension Review will determine how well it is performing. This may include what the annual fees amount to, if the pension is growing at a reasonable level, how it is invested, if it could perform better with different investments, and if the fund will be able to provide the desired retirement.
Lump sums from your pension. You can usually take up to 25% of the amount built up in any pension as a tax-free lump sum from the age of 55. The tax-free lump sum doesn't affect your Personal Allowance. Tax is taken off the remaining amount before you get it.
A recent investigation carried out by the FCA into pension fees and hidden charges found that 'un-checked' excessive charges can erode the value of a pension by as much as 40%. A pension review carried out by a Financial Advisor will give you access to cheaper pension funds.
Most self-employed people use a personal pension for their pension savings. With a personal pension you choose where you want your contributions to be invested from a range of funds offered by the provider.
There are many things to consider as you approach retirement. It's good to start by reviewing your finances to ensure your future income will allow you to enjoy the lifestyle you want.
